For 20 weeks during the school year CATCO staff work in three core urban schools using theatre to teach academic subjects (such as math and science) in preparation for the state achievement tests. Students learn to write, edit, rehearse, and produce a play that deals with a major topic covered on the test. The plays the children write and perform have ranged from the life cycle of a butterfly to the three branches of government to photosynthesis. This program is at the forefront of curriculum development and is at the heart of our educational outreach program.

CATCO’s multi-grade-level residency program expands the “At Risk” program to enable children in grades 3–7 to interact with one another, providing opportunities that foster subconscious mentorship and collaboration.

LEARNING NEVER ENDS
Throughout the calendar year, CATCO provides drama programming at Learning Never Ends, a day-program for adults with developmental disabilities. Participants rehearse with CATCO staff twice a week for about 8-10 weeks before rehearsals culminate into a performance at the Columbus Performing Arts Center. Participants work on everything from Fairy Tales to Shakespeare. These performances happen four times each year.
