WHAT’S HAPPENING?

While rentals of Columbus Performing Arts Center’s facilities were placed on hold due to Ohio’s Stay at Home Order, Columbus Recreation and Parks Department found some structural concerns in the roof over the Shedd Theatre patron seating area during routine maintenance and inspections. Out of an abundance of caution, the patron seating area was closed and will remain closed until repairs can be completed.

This does not affect the Shedd Theatre stage, Van Fleet Theatre and other spaces at the Downtown arts complex.

WHAT’S THE TIMELINE FOR OPENING THE SHEDD THEATRE PATRON SEATING AREA?

A timeline for opening the patron seating area has not been set. Columbus Recreation and Parks is in the process of conducting architectural and structural reviews to better understand needs, costs and timelines. A timeline will be set once that information is received and evaluated.

If you have questions about the repair process, please contact Geoff Martin, Columbus Recreation and Parks Arts Administrator, at GAMartin@columbus.gov or 614-645-7527.

WAS THERE ANY RISK TO PUBLIC SAFETY?

No. CATCO and Columbus Recreation and Parks closed the patron seating area out of an abundance of caution.

HOW DID YOU DECIDE WHICH EVENTS WERE CANCELED?

No events have been canceled. All organizations and individuals who have rented the space have the option of continuing with their event with the modification of not using the patron seating area, or canceling their reservation.

WHY IS THE SHEDD THEATRE STAGE OPEN IF THE PATRON SEATING AREA IS CLOSED?

Every event is different, and some events can successfully take place within the stage area. Maintaining rentals of the stage area only offers renters the option to continue with their event at the Shedd Theatre. CATCO is exploring options such as broadcast capabilities that would offer additional ways for events to take place in the Shedd Theatre.

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS IF I HAVE RENTED THE THEATRE?

We know your event is important and are researching options to host your event without using the patron seating area, such as offering broadcast capabilities for an additional fee. You also have the option of canceling your reservation and receiving a full refund.

To discuss options for your upcoming event, please contact both CPAC Facility Coordinators – Caroline Dittamo, cdittamo@catco.org, and Rowan Winterwood, rwinterwood@catco.org.

WHO DO I CONTACT FOR MORE INFORMATION?

If you have general questions, please contact Sarah Mills Bacha with CATCO at 614-563-1066 or smbacha@earthlink.net, or Kerry Francis with Columbus Recreation and Parks Department at 740-504-5892 or klfrancis@columbus.gov.
